The Greatest Antioxidants in Your Kitchen

by Rebecca on January 16, 2014, one comment

During the wintertime, eating antioxidant rich foods eliminates potentially cancer-causing free radicals from your bodily systems, adding energy to your body and calm to your mind. Here are five ingredients packed with all the antioxidants you’ll need for enough energy to weather, well, the cold weather!

Chia Seeds: Packed with healthy omega oils, easily digestible protein, and antioxidants, chia seeds may help with diabetes, hypoglycemia and celiac disease. At Urban Remedy we love chia seeds in our Chai meal replacement smoothie. Mmm spiced deliciousness!

Vanilla: It’s not just an ice cream flavor people! Vanilla is a powerful antioxidant. For full vanilla flavor, nothing beats our Urban Remedy cookies, healthy enough to snack on any time of day!

Black Currants: Black currants contain phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. Sprinkle some dried currants on any salad for some beautifully bright tartness.

Cacao: Chocolate-y and delicious cacao is antioxidant-rich with essential minerals like magnesium and iron. Delicious in brownies or brittles, this super-food is super-scrumptious.

Garlic: Garlic promotes the well-being of the heart and immune systems with its antioxidant properties and helps maintain healthy blood circulation. At Urban Remedy, our kale chips pack all that garlic-y goodness into one simple snack.

Fuel your body with antioxidant-rich foods this wintertime and hibernate happy!

In Support of Fruit!

by Rebecca on January 14, 2014, no comments

The Well section of the NYTimes just ran a piece in support of fruit! Here at Urban Remedy we are major fruit supporters. Here is a list of our favorite fruits, and what makes them so good for you.

Bananas: One of the best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure, bananas are the perfect fruit to eat after a workout, first thing when you wake up in the morning, in a juice, or just as a snack any ol’ time of day! Normal blood pressure keeps your circulation steady, providing your body with an even flow of oxygen and therefore energy throughout your entire day. Another fun potassium fact? This mineral also aids muscle cramping, so ladies, you know when you’ll need ‘em. At Urban Remedy we love bananas in our Chocolate Banana smoothie and our brittles.

Blueberries: Blueberries are full of antioxidants that reduce the kind of cell damage possibly responsible for cancer development. Talk about a superfood! That’s not their only claim to fame… Blueberries also improve your vision and promote weight control. Whether you drink them down in a juice, yummy smoothie, or just grab a handful on the go, blueberries are a fantastic fruit to add into your diet. We love sipping on some blueberries in our young love juice and greenberry smoothie. Sweet and super!

Raspberries: Nature’s sweet tarts, raspberries purify the blood and benefit the liver and kidneys. Pure blood carries increased levels of oxygen to your organs, naturally boosting energy, while a healthy liver and kidneys amplify your body’s detoxing efficiency. Sounds fabulous to us! You can find raspberries in our warrior juice as well as our PB&J smoothie. Drink your way to a healthier you.

Ingredient Spotlight: Extra Virgin Olive Oil

by Rebecca on January 7, 2014, no comments

Rachael Ray’s not the only foodie in love with EVOO. Here at Urban Remedy we know that extra virgin olive oil contains phytonutrients like polyphenols that protect against inflammation, an underlying cause of many health issues. With lower inflammation, you’re less likely to feel that achey stiffness of winter, for a season full of energy and cheer!

Why Extra Virgin? Extra Virgin refers to the grade of oil you are getting. Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade olive oil, equipped with the purest and freshest olive flavor. Mmm!

Where can you use extra virgin olive oil? Pretty much anywhere you would normally use butter. Also, if butter is just too near and dear to your heart to lose try using a half butter/half EVOO combo to get that same buttery taste with less calories and fat. At Urban Remedy we love extra virgin olive oil on our kale chips, the perfect crunchy salty snack on a cozy winter’s day.

Ingredient Spotlight: Cranberries

by Rebecca on December 31, 2013, no comments

Cranberries are this holiday season’s tangy superstar. Fresh, sweet, and festive, these berries are packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants making a dish with cranberries the healthiest companion for all of your traditional holiday favorites.

Why so healthy? The antioxidants in cranberries help eradicate cancer-causing free-radicals from the bloodstream and body, lowering your risk for mutant cell growth.

Feeling a cold coming? Pop a few cranberries for a kick of Vitamin C. Vitamin C boosts your immune system, helping you fight off even the peskiest virus.

Oh and if that’s not enough… the phytonutrients in cranberries act as anti-inflammatories keeping your body and mind mellow in wellness this holiday season.

This year, keep calm with cranberries!

Ingredient Spotlight: Cashews

by Rebecca on November 7, 2013, no comments

Nutty and hearty cashews are power-packed with minerals like manganese, copper, potassium, and iron. Potassium helps keep the heart beating, while iron aids the blood in carrying oxygen throughout the circulatory system, together fueling one energized body. In cooler months especially, a diet full of potassium and iron ensures our bodies receive enough of a boost to power through wintertime. Grab a handful of cashews for a quick afternoon snack, or drink them down with delicious cashew milk!

Decide if you really want bridal shoes to wear for 1 day only. The ultimate bridal shoes will go perfect with your wedding dress, but you will have a hard time matching them with regular outfits. It's fine if that's what you really want, but it may do you good to remember that "perfect" doesn't have to be "impractical".. Competition: A Major ThreatThe competitive rivalry within the retail industry is the major threat that Coach is currently facing. Coach currently holds 28% of the US handbag market. The figure below shows that a major chunk of Coach's revenue comes from sales of women's handbags. Enter into this a surprisingly complex tale about revenge and family.
