Young at Heart

foods to eat to keep you healthy and in loveMaybe you’ve heard that love makes the heart grow fonder? Well, at Urban Remedy we believe healthy eating makes the heart grow stronger! Heart health starts with the food you eat to keep your circulatory system spritely. Here are a few of our favorite ingredients for maintaining heart health.

Garlic: High cholesterol levels are dangerous foes in the heart health game. With cholesterol-clogged arteries, blood (and therefore oxygen) cannot easily access the heart, putting this vital organ in danger of failure. Garlic has shown to lower cholesterol levels, making this herb a vital ally in your quest for heart health. At Urban Remedy, we love garlic in our kale chips!

Beets: Beets are blood cleaners. Full of antioxidants and nitrates, beet juice rids the blood of free radicals, keeping circulation efficient. Those perks not enough? As exercise is equally, if not more, important to your heart’s health, beets have shown to boost stamina, helping you hit the gym longer. We pack our After Party juice with the all that delicious beet power to keep your heart healthy, energy up, and taste buds happy!

03_31_14_heartHealthBurdock Root: Burdock root, used in many ancient folk remedies, is one of the best blood purifying herbs. It’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have shown to soften hardened arteries and eliminate toxins from the bloodstream. With increased artery flexibility and purified blood, the heart can more easily and steadily receive oxygen. At Urban Remedy, burdock root keeps our Beam juice heart healthy and totally delicious.

Cardamom: Cardamom, a spice native to Middle Eastern cuisine, can help lower high blood pressure. High blood pressure occurs when blood, muddled with toxins, pushes against its travel ways (i.e. your arteries) at an increased rate, slowing circulation and causing the heart to work harder. Purer blood travels better. Cardamom’s antioxidant levels cleanse free radical particles from the blood easing circulation, and pressure off the heart. An added perk? Cardamom is also a mood elevator! Nourish yourself with a healthy dose of Cardamom, to boost the moods of both your heart and mind! Huzzah!

Your heart does so much for you. This week, be your heart’s hero. Exercise and eat right to help your heart win its fight, for health.

by Rebecca on January 16, 2014, one comment

During the wintertime, eating antioxidant rich foods eliminates potentially cancer-causing free radicals from your bodily systems, adding energy to your body and calm to your mind. Here are five ingredients packed with all the antioxidants you’ll need for enough energy to weather, well, the cold weather!

Chia Seeds: Packed with healthy omega oils, easily digestible protein, and antioxidants, chia seeds may help with diabetes, hypoglycemia and celiac disease. At Urban Remedy we love chia seeds in our Chai meal replacement smoothie. Mmm spiced deliciousness!

Vanilla: It’s not just an ice cream flavor people! Vanilla is a powerful antioxidant. For full vanilla flavor, nothing beats our Urban Remedy cookies, healthy enough to snack on any time of day!

Black Currants: Black currants contain phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. Sprinkle some dried currants on any salad for some beautifully bright tartness.

Cacao: Chocolate-y and delicious cacao is antioxidant-rich with essential minerals like magnesium and iron. Delicious in brownies or brittles, this super-food is super-scrumptious.

Garlic: Garlic promotes the well-being of the heart and immune systems with its antioxidant properties and helps maintain healthy blood circulation. At Urban Remedy, our kale chips pack all that garlic-y goodness into one simple snack.

Fuel your body with antioxidant-rich foods this wintertime and hibernate happy!

In Support of Fruit!

by Rebecca on January 14, 2014, no comments

The Well section of the NYTimes just ran a piece in support of fruit! Here at Urban Remedy we are major fruit supporters. Here is a list of our favorite fruits, and what makes them so good for you.

Bananas: One of the best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure, bananas are the perfect fruit to eat after a workout, first thing when you wake up in the morning, in a juice, or just as a snack any ol’ time of day! Normal blood pressure keeps your circulation steady, providing your body with an even flow of oxygen and therefore energy throughout your entire day. Another fun potassium fact? This mineral also aids muscle cramping, so ladies, you know when you’ll need ‘em. At Urban Remedy we love bananas in our Chocolate Banana smoothie and our brittles.

Blueberries: Blueberries are full of antioxidants that reduce the kind of cell damage possibly responsible for cancer development. Talk about a superfood! That’s not their only claim to fame… Blueberries also improve your vision and promote weight control. Whether you drink them down in a juice, yummy smoothie, or just grab a handful on the go, blueberries are a fantastic fruit to add into your diet. We love sipping on some blueberries in our young love juice and greenberry smoothie. Sweet and super!

Raspberries: Nature’s sweet tarts, raspberries purify the blood and benefit the liver and kidneys. Pure blood carries increased levels of oxygen to your organs, naturally boosting energy, while a healthy liver and kidneys amplify your body’s detoxing efficiency. Sounds fabulous to us! You can find raspberries in our warrior juice as well as our PB&J smoothie. Drink your way to a healthier you.

Ingredient Spotlight: Cranberries

by Rebecca on December 31, 2013, no comments

Cranberries are this holiday season’s tangy superstar. Fresh, sweet, and festive, these berries are packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants making a dish with cranberries the healthiest companion for all of your traditional holiday favorites.

Why so healthy? The antioxidants in cranberries help eradicate cancer-causing free-radicals from the bloodstream and body, lowering your risk for mutant cell growth.

Feeling a cold coming? Pop a few cranberries for a kick of Vitamin C. Vitamin C boosts your immune system, helping you fight off even the peskiest virus.

Oh and if that’s not enough… the phytonutrients in cranberries act as anti-inflammatories keeping your body and mind mellow in wellness this holiday season.

This year, keep calm with cranberries!

you are designing for runway not she by sheree Teens are quickly moving toward a new found state of independence. This often includes finding a new fashion sense and dressing at least in your teen's mind like an individual. That said, your teen's somewhat skewed sense of style may need a helping hand at times. Decide if you really want bridal shoes to wear for 1 day only. The ultimate bridal shoes will go perfect with your wedding dress, but you will have a hard time matching them with regular outfits. It's fine if that's what you really want, but it may do you good to remember that "perfect" doesn't have to be "impractical".. Competition: A Major ThreatThe competitive rivalry within the retail industry is the major threat that Coach is currently facing. Coach currently holds 28% of the US handbag market. The figure below shows that a major chunk of Coach's revenue comes from sales of women's handbags. Enter into this a surprisingly complex tale about revenge and family. The capital of Area 11 has been devastated and the central part of it is now made up of a massive Brittania stronghold. The areas surrounding it are in ruins and are being demolished to make way for new expansions and to push down the Elevens even more. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. He was a very well educated man. He studied Art History at the University of Monpellier, and then in 1971 enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris. The sidekick played the role of a Greek chorus, providing exposition while giving the hero someone to talk to and the reader someone to relate to. But oftentimes, this meant that they got shortchanged in the costume department. Despite being bastions of truth and justice dedicated to righting wrongs and sticking up for the downtrodden, a hero remains a vain person at heart and in order to maintain their superiority and popularity, they often clad their sidekicks in degrading and humiliating outfits. The sporty trend is a little more difficult to pull off since there isn't one basic characteristic you can look for. The upside of this is the versatility and ability to pull off this look with items already in your closet. The sporty trend falls into four simple categories according to fashion experts, "the tomboy, the sporty flapper, the urban dancer, and the Bond bombshell." On the casual to formal scale, this fad falls somewhere between gym wear and weekend, glamorous casual..Thrifty NW Mom
