What’s our newest Urban Remedy obsession? Cold- pressed coffee! This delicious antioxidant oracle makes mornings burst with energy and afternoons perk right up. In addition to tasting delicious we just cannot get enough of are the health benefits!
So, Coffee is Good for me?
Coffee is actually one of the highest antioxidant per capita drinks available on the market today. Studies have shown that the free-radical-fighting antioxidants in coffee have also proven to lower liver cancer risk. This bean-brewed elixir can even protect against cirrhosis of the liver. Research also demonstrates that coffee can boost certain hormone-regulating proteins crucial in maintaining the body’s decreased risk of type-II diabetes development. Sounds like a wonder drink to us!
Okay, but What about the Caffeine?
Yes, caffeine is a stimulant, and yes, you’ll find it in caffeinated coffee. There are 95mg of caffeine in a generically brewed caffeinated cup. Though when consumed in excess caffeine intake can result in unpleasant side effects, in moderation, this natural stimulant boosts energy and can even reduce risk of Parkinson’s disease. An all-natural energy boost with preventative properties? Yes please!
Oh, and What’s this about a Cold Brew?
When you think coffee, you probably think heat. Even an iced coffee must come from that previously brewed hot liquid, right? Not necessarily. You can also cold-brew! The cold brewing process garners the same coffee from the same ground coffee beans, but with added benefits. For example, cold-brewed coffee has lower acidity levels due to the lack of heat during the brewing process. This lower acidity level, while aiding digestion, also gives the finished product a slightly sweeter flavor. The down side? This process does take significantly longer than a heated brew; 12+ hours.
Oh but don’t you fret! At Urban Remedy, we’ve got your Cold-Brew ready to taste right now. For an extra special treat, try our Cold-Brew Light and Sweet, lightly sweetened with a touch of coconut sugar. Easy and delicious!
Final Fun Fact: Cold-brew coffee is very popular in Japan. Who knew?!
The Well section of the NYTimes just ran a piece in support of fruit! Here at Urban Remedy we are major fruit supporters. Here is a list of our favorite fruits, and what makes them so good for you.
Bananas: One of the best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure, bananas are the perfect fruit to eat after a workout, first thing when you wake up in the morning, in a juice, or just as a snack any ol’ time of day! Normal blood pressure keeps your circulation steady, providing your body with an even flow of oxygen and therefore energy throughout your entire day. Another fun potassium fact? This mineral also aids muscle cramping, so ladies, you know when you’ll need ‘em. At Urban Remedy we love bananas in our Chocolate Banana smoothie and our brittles.
Blueberries: Blueberries are full of antioxidants that reduce the kind of cell damage possibly responsible for cancer development. Talk about a superfood! That’s not their only claim to fame… Blueberries also improve your vision and promote weight control. Whether you drink them down in a juice, yummy smoothie, or just grab a handful on the go, blueberries are a fantastic fruit to add into your diet. We love sipping on some blueberries in our young love juice and greenberry smoothie. Sweet and super!
Raspberries: Nature’s sweet tarts, raspberries purify the blood and benefit the liver and kidneys. Pure blood carries increased levels of oxygen to your organs, naturally boosting energy, while a healthy liver and kidneys amplify your body’s detoxing efficiency. Sounds fabulous to us! You can find raspberries in our warrior juice as well as our PB&J smoothie. Drink your way to a healthier you.
