Coffee: The Benefits Behind your Buzz

by Rebecca on April 28, 2014, no comments

What’s our newest Urban Remedy obsession? Cold- pressed coffee! This delicious antioxidant oracle makes mornings burst with energy and afternoons perk right up. In addition to tasting delicious we just cannot get enough of are the health benefits!

So, Coffee is Good for me?

health benefits of coffee
Coffee is actually one of the highest antioxidant per capita drinks available on the market today. Studies have shown that the free-radical-fighting antioxidants in coffee have also proven to lower liver cancer risk. This bean-brewed elixir can even protect against cirrhosis of the liver. Research also demonstrates that coffee can boost certain hormone-regulating proteins crucial in maintaining the body’s decreased risk of type-II diabetes development. Sounds like a wonder drink to us!

Okay, but What about the Caffeine?

Yes, caffeine is a stimulant, and yes, you’ll find it in caffeinated coffee. There are 95mg of caffeine in a generically brewed caffeinated cup. Though when consumed in excess caffeine intake can result in unpleasant side effects, in moderation, this natural stimulant boosts energy and can even reduce risk of Parkinson’s disease. An all-natural energy boost with preventative properties? Yes please!

Oh, and What’s this about a Cold Brew?

When you think coffee, you probably think heat. Even an iced coffee must come from that previously brewed hot liquid, right? Not necessarily. You can also cold-brew! The cold brewing process garners the same coffee from the same ground coffee beans, but with added benefits. For example, cold-brewed coffee has lower acidity levels due to the lack of heat during the brewing process. This lower acidity level, while aiding digestion, also gives the finished product a slightly sweeter flavor. The down side? This process does take significantly longer than a heated brew; 12+ hours.

Oh but don’t you fret! At Urban Remedy, we’ve got your Cold-Brew ready to taste right now. For an extra special treat, try our Cold-Brew Light and Sweet, lightly sweetened with a touch of coconut sugar. Easy and delicious!

Final Fun Fact: Cold-brew coffee is very popular in Japan. Who knew?!

In Support of Fruit!

by Rebecca on January 14, 2014, no comments

The Well section of the NYTimes just ran a piece in support of fruit! Here at Urban Remedy we are major fruit supporters. Here is a list of our favorite fruits, and what makes them so good for you.

Bananas: One of the best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure, bananas are the perfect fruit to eat after a workout, first thing when you wake up in the morning, in a juice, or just as a snack any ol’ time of day! Normal blood pressure keeps your circulation steady, providing your body with an even flow of oxygen and therefore energy throughout your entire day. Another fun potassium fact? This mineral also aids muscle cramping, so ladies, you know when you’ll need ‘em. At Urban Remedy we love bananas in our Chocolate Banana smoothie and our brittles.

Blueberries: Blueberries are full of antioxidants that reduce the kind of cell damage possibly responsible for cancer development. Talk about a superfood! That’s not their only claim to fame… Blueberries also improve your vision and promote weight control. Whether you drink them down in a juice, yummy smoothie, or just grab a handful on the go, blueberries are a fantastic fruit to add into your diet. We love sipping on some blueberries in our young love juice and greenberry smoothie. Sweet and super!

Raspberries: Nature’s sweet tarts, raspberries purify the blood and benefit the liver and kidneys. Pure blood carries increased levels of oxygen to your organs, naturally boosting energy, while a healthy liver and kidneys amplify your body’s detoxing efficiency. Sounds fabulous to us! You can find raspberries in our warrior juice as well as our PB&J smoothie. Drink your way to a healthier you.

Yoga Poses for Your New Year’s Figure

by Rebecca on January 2, 2014, no comments

At Urban Remedy we know that this New Year you want to look and feel your best. Celebrate a renewed commitment to yourself with some easy to do yoga moves. Here is a list of our three favorite yoga poses to keep your energy up and your waist trim!

Eagle Pose: Bending your legs and balancing on one foot, wrap your other leg around your stable leg hooking your foot behind your calf. Then cross one arm over the other and wrap until both palms touch. Hold, then switch sides. This wrapping and balancing pose aids digestion, keeping your waist slender and your look fabulous!

Bow Pose: Lying on your stomach, reach around and grab each leg in hand. Gently push against your hands with your legs and lift your body like a bow off the ground. A few minutes in this pose massages and stretches your stomach muscles and boosts your energy making you a sharp shooter.

Spinal Twist: Lie on your back with your arms stretched out in a T-shape. Keeping your arms in place, cross one leg over the other. Hold, then switch sides. This twist massages your organs and glands, increasing circulation and digestion for a quick little slimming trick!

Ingredient Spotlight: Cashews

by Rebecca on November 7, 2013, no comments

Nutty and hearty cashews are power-packed with minerals like manganese, copper, potassium, and iron. Potassium helps keep the heart beating, while iron aids the blood in carrying oxygen throughout the circulatory system, together fueling one energized body. In cooler months especially, a diet full of potassium and iron ensures our bodies receive enough of a boost to power through wintertime. Grab a handful of cashews for a quick afternoon snack, or drink them down with delicious cashew milk!

you are designing for runway not she by sheree Teens are quickly moving toward a new found state of independence. This often includes finding a new fashion sense and dressing at least in your teen's mind like an individual. That said, your teen's somewhat skewed sense of style may need a helping hand at times. Decide if you really want bridal shoes to wear for 1 day only. The ultimate bridal shoes will go perfect with your wedding dress, but you will have a hard time matching them with regular outfits. It's fine if that's what you really want, but it may do you good to remember that "perfect" doesn't have to be "impractical".. Competition: A Major ThreatThe competitive rivalry within the retail industry is the major threat that Coach is currently facing. Coach currently holds 28% of the US handbag market. The figure below shows that a major chunk of Coach's revenue comes from sales of women's handbags. Enter into this a surprisingly complex tale about revenge and family. The capital of Area 11 has been devastated and the central part of it is now made up of a massive Brittania stronghold. The areas surrounding it are in ruins and are being demolished to make way for new expansions and to push down the Elevens even more. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. He was a very well educated man. He studied Art History at the University of Monpellier, and then in 1971 enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris. Lacroix had aspired to be a museum curator and so went to complete a program in museum studies at the Ecole du Louvre. The sidekick played the role of a Greek chorus, providing exposition while giving the hero someone to talk to and the reader someone to relate to. But oftentimes, this meant that they got shortchanged in the costume department. Despite being bastions of truth and justice dedicated to righting wrongs and sticking up for the downtrodden, a hero remains a vain person at heart and in order to maintain their superiority and popularity, they often clad their sidekicks in degrading and humiliating outfits. The sporty trend is a little more difficult to pull off since there isn't one basic characteristic you can look for. The upside of this is the versatility and ability to pull off this look with items already in your closet. The sporty trend falls into four simple categories according to fashion experts, "the tomboy, the sporty flapper, the urban dancer, and the Bond bombshell." On the casual to formal scale, this fad falls somewhere between gym wear and weekend, glamorous casual..Thrifty NW Mom
