Good Health Begins with Good Habits

Good Health Good Habits with Urban Remdy

There is the popular saying that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Lets just say there is no one prescription or time frame for all. When it comes to our health, it’s important to recognize that creating good habits is a process.

When forming a new habit, the brain actually creates new neural pathways. These neural pathways become stronger the longer you hold a habit, eventually turning a habit into a natural practice.

Lets say you have been wanting to create healthier eating habits. Look at the individual actions around your eating and create one simple plan at a time.

If eating more raw living foods is something that interests you, commit to making raw foods one of your daily meals. Over several weeks that raw meal will begin to feel normal. Preparing it, eating it and digesting it will no longer feel new. Something very cool happens when we commit to doing the same thing over and over again, it becomes just a part of how we live.

Sometimes having the knowledge to do what we want isn’t always enough. We need tools to take an idea and turn it into a practice. You can apply this to all areas of your life.

Forming a better relationship with the foods you eat requires three things: Knowledge, Good Habits and Commitment.

We’re here to support you!

Kale Trip: Eat Healthy while Traveling

Kale Trip Eat Healthy while Traveling by Urban Remedy

While on the journey to eating well, there can be some bumps in the road. Traveling can certainly present some food challenges.

My recent experience proved that it doesn’t have to be hard. With a little planning, an openness for adventure and a dab of creativity, you can eat clean while away from the certainty of your own kitchen.

Healthy while Camping infused water

I departed from Marin County, California to spend 2 weeks on the road with my family, (exploring 10 different states), prepped for a lack of real food options. What I learned was surprising. Our country is scattered with charming natural food co-ops, fabulous farmer’s markets, healthy restaurants and grocery stores that have their own organic section.

Here is Your Guide to Keeping it Real on the Road:

  • Stock up on healthy foods that will keep you covered for a few days. Pack a cooler full of fresh fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds and anything perishable. Pack a separate bag of non perishables that make easy snacks or meals.
  • Make time to pull over and explore scenic routes. Find a picnic table,  cut up some fresh fruit and enjoy the moment.
  • Create a map of your route. Pin all the quality food stops along the way. It’s great to discover each town’s local organic food scene.
  • Create infused waters by adding some fresh herbs, citrus or fruit to your water. Let it sit for an hour. Your water will come alive with natural flavor.
  • Order fresh raw juices and meals and have them shipped to wherever you are traveling to.
  • Even when camping or “roughing it,” create an experience when eating.  Add fresh picked roadside flowers to your table and don’t forget the candle light.

Recipes for the Road:

Collard Green Wraps
Spread hummus on a large collard leaf, add shredded carrots, avocado, cilantro, seaweed and toasted almonds. Wrap and enjoy!

Endive Boats
Create a quinoa salad with fresh fennel, jalapeno, parsley, cilantro, lime, garlic and tamari, toss and then scoop into open endive leaves

Oatmeal Stir
If you are craving a hot meal, oatmeal is so quick and easy to cook. Put some coconut oil, garlic and tamari in a wok with bok choy, kale, bell pepper, and sprouted mung bean shoots, serve over warm oatmeal.

And just remember, … “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey that matters.” Honor your body no matter where you are. Have fun exploring new foods in new places.!

Ingredient Spotlight: Seeds

by Rebecca on November 21, 2013, no comments

At Urban Remedy we love seeds. Full of antioxidants and omega oils, seeds are wonderful additions to any juice or salad. They add that extra boost of healthy. Here are three types of seeds we can’t live without.

Chia Seeds: Chia seeds have healthy omega oils, easily digestible protein and antioxidants and may help with diabetes, hypoglycemia, and celiac disease. At Urban Remedy we love chia seeds in our Chocolate Banana meal replacement shake. Such a sweet, healthy treat!

Flaxseed: Whether blended into a smoothie or toasted and tossed over a fresh kale salad, flaxseed is a wonderful source of fiber. Hailing from ancient Babylon, flaxseed is a longtime cherished ingredient sure to steady digestion and possibly even reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Sesame Seeds: Sesame seeds make a great bagel topping and also work wonders for eliminating bad cholesterol and reducing high blood pressure. Imagine that! Our Urban Remedy kale chips are covered in sesame seeds, and we can’t get enough!

Looking to shake things up? Try sprinkling some seeds over you next meal, and watch your health blossom!

This often includes finding a new fashion sense and dressing at least in your teen's mind like an individual. That said, your teen's somewhat skewed sense of style may need a helping hand at times. Decide if you really want bridal shoes to wear for 1 day only. The ultimate bridal shoes will go perfect with your wedding dress, but you will have a hard time matching them with regular outfits. It's fine if that's what you really want, but it may do you good to remember that "perfect" doesn't have to be "impractical".. Competition: A Major ThreatThe competitive rivalry within the retail industry is the major threat that Coach is currently facing. Coach currently holds 28% of the US handbag market. The figure below shows that a major chunk of Coach's revenue comes from sales of women's handbags. Enter into this a surprisingly complex tale about revenge and family. The capital of Area 11 has been devastated and the central part of it is now made up of a massive Brittania stronghold.
