There isn’t a lot we can do to eliminate environmental toxins, but we can eliminate those in our own home.

Cleaning agents, solvents, body products, and beauty products can consist of harmful chemicals, metals and preservatives. Over time, these toxins can accumulate in the body and affect its systems. This toxic accumulation can have a huge affect on the brain, the nervous system, the endocrine system, and the organs. By rethinking the products you use in your home and on your body, you are creating a place of health within your home.

The minute we step outside our home, it’s a different story.  We are bombarded by millions of particles that can gradually deteriorate our health. Here’s the good news… Our body is beautifully designed to help us filter out anything harmful, working to keep us healthy, despite living in a polluted world.  The body is wise and almost always knows how to heal itself. Even so, it needs our support to remain clean and toxin free. Our actions, especially when it comes to what we eat, can support our body in its continuous effort to restore vitality.

One of the best ways you can cleanse and alkalize your body is through a raw juice cleanse. Raw juice does two things: it restores nutrients to the body and it eliminates toxins. If you drink raw juice daily, you are significantly supporting your body’s effort to sustain optimal health! If you are new to cleansing, try a 1 day cleanse weekly for one month. The term has earned its badge amongst wellness communities because it seeks to further our understanding of health. It challenges us to move beyond the, “treat the symptom,” model.

The holistic model is based upon healing at a whole level. When you give your body, mind and spirit what it needs to feel happy, whole and healthy, there is nothing else. There is the saying, “When the diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when the diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Food as medicine connects us to our roots and invites us to have a deeper connection to the land and the foods we eat.

How Long Should I Do A Juice Cleanse?

As we hear this question quite frequently, we thought you could use a handy resource for choosing the length of your cleanse. Overall, this answer depends on what your body needs and your personal health goals.  Every body has its own history of diet, chemical exposure and stress levels, so consider yours when picking which length of a cleanse to complete.

1 Day

This is a great introduction to the idea of cleansing as well as a great way to maintain the benefits of a longer cleanse. Do this once a month, before a big date, or after a little too much indulging and you’ll feel the difference.

3 Days
A three day juice cleanse eliminate toxins, bolster your immune system, boost energy, clear your skin and help you get glowing, stimulate weight loss, and address many basic gastro-intestinal imbalances.

5-to-7 Days
This is recommended to address many common health concerns, such as if you have a high-stress lifestyle, eat fast/processed foods, smoke, drink, or take prescription/non-prescription drugs.

2-to-4 Weeks
For chronic health concerns, inflammation, or to lose a good amount of weight, a longer program may be needed. We’ll recommend a customized juice cleanse of  up to 2 weeks, followed by 2 more weeks with the addition of cleansing foods.

How to Do a Juice Cleanse

Congratulations on your decision to do a juice cleanse!  Here are some simple tips on how to do a juice cleanse that is successful, easy and fun.

1. Pre-Juice Cleanse

Diet: Upholding a healthy, light diet 3 days before your juice cleanse will ease the hunger cravings during the juice cleansing. Only eat organic fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and eggs and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Our egg taco recipe is a great pre-juice cleanse meal. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed foods, dairy, red meat and gluten.

Time: For an optimal juice cleansing experience, make sure you have the free time to reflect and rest. Do not do juice cleanses during an emotionally intense time or during a major life transition. Set yourself up for success: ask your friends and family to support you or to even to do a juice cleanse with you! Offer them this list of reasons to juice for more information.

Attitude: Set an intention for your juice cleanse. An intention is a commitment to changing a part of your life that no longer serves you. What do you want to create through your juice cleanse? What do you need to heal (such as relationships, illnesses, thought patterns)? How will you know if your juice cleanse was a success? Write down your answers to these questions to reveal the intention for your juice cleanse.

2. During Your Juice Cleanse 

Diet: We recommend a 100% juice cleanse because eating slows down the juice cleansing process. If you need to eat during your juice cleanse, choose organic fruits, vegetables or soaked nuts and seeds. Try the Urban Remedy meal replacement smoothies and Nosh snacks, which are raw, gluten-free and very nutritious.

Exercise: Limit yourself to light exercise, such as walks, yoga, and stretching. Your energy levels will change when you’re on a juice cleanse, so pay attention to what your body needs before exercising.

Activities: We suggest doing introspective activities while juice cleansing such as writing in a journal, meditation, walks in nature and listening to gentle music. Avoid places with loud noise and a lot of activity; you might be more sensitive during your juice cleanse than usual. Make sure you have a lot of free time to take care of yourself.

3. After Your Juice Cleanse

During the three days after completing your juice cleanse, follow a diet similar to the pre-cleanse diet. You can eat organic fruits and green vegetables the first day after your juice cleanse. On the second day, add brown rice, eggs and yogurt. Add chicken, fish or meat to the diet 5 to 6 days after the fast. Use your juice cleanse experience to create new, healthy eating habits!
